Programs and Teaching Guides for Subjects
Curriculum information
Module I: Research Lines: is mandatory. The credits are taken in three subjects common to all the master's program venues:
- Methodology and sources for research (5 ECTS)
- Contemporary History: controversies, views, and historiographical perspectives (5 ECTS)
- Lecture Series (5 ECTS). The series takes place between the first and second semester in Jaca and lasts for one week, from Monday to Friday.
Module II: Topics in Contemporary History.
The student must complete 30 ECTS credits distributed among subjects of 5 credits each. The optional subjects are organized into 8 topics:
Topic I: The State and the public sphere.
Topic II: Identities, nation, and nationalisms.
Topic III: Rural societies, urban societies.
Topic IV: Cultural history and history of political cultures.
Topic V: International, transnational, and global history.
Topic VI: Social and economic changes.
Topic VII: Historiography, historical methodologies, and applied research.

Module III: Master's Thesis (15 ECTS). Mandatory
The Master's Thesis is a final module of 15 ECTS credits. It consists of a research project directed by a professor of the program on a topic of Contemporary History, which will be presented in writing and defended before a board of examiners by means of an oral presentation.
Notice
In accordance with the agreements by UAM’s Postgraduate Studies Committee, any optional subjects on which less than five students are registered, may not go ahead. The students affected by this situation will be informed accordingly so that they can register for other subjects.
The choice of optional subjects may vary slightly before the start of the classes due to adjustments to the Master's Degree teaching schedule, in which case students will be informed accordingly.
