Description and Objectives
The Master's Degree in Classical Studies (implemented as the Master's Degree in Classical Philology in the academic year 2009-2010) is a joint program offered by the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Complutense University of Madrid, and the University of Alcalá.
This Master's aims to provide high-quality specialized training in the various areas traditionally composing Classical Studies. Its distinctive features include:
INTERUNIVERSITY: The degree can be offered by one of the three most prestigious universities in Spain in this field.
INTERDISCIPLINARY: It integrates various areas of knowledge involved in the study of the ancient world, such as Latin Philology, Greek Philology, Indo-European Linguistics, and various sub-areas including theoretical, historical, and comparative linguistics, literary theory, comparative literature, classical survival and tradition, epigraphy, Byzantine studies, Latin Humanism, etc.
EDUCATIONAL AND SCIENTIFIC: It aims to both complement the education of those who have studied humanities, especially those related to Classical Antiquity, and introduce them to the objectives, theoretical foundations, and methods of research in the mentioned fields and areas.
INDIVIDUALIZED: Each student can organize their own curriculum, catering to individual preferences and interests, and specializing, through the offered options, in more linguistic or cultural profiles.

Those who wish to deepen their knowledge of Greco-Roman Antiquity, particularly in literary, linguistic, and cultural aspects.

Young researchers seeking to delve into the theoretical and bibliographic foundations, as well as research methods in linguistics, literature, and cultural contact within the field.
Practicing teachers who want to supplement and simultaneously deepen their knowledge of the Classical World.
It is noted that knowledge of ancient Greek and Latin is required to study Module 2.
Professional Training
The education obtained in the Master's Degree in Classical Philology allows, first and foremost, access to doctoral programs related to the Ancient World. It is an essential requirement for conducting research aimed at writing a doctoral thesis related to the languages, literatures, and cultures of Greek and Latin, as well as their historical backgrounds and the continued influence of the rich classical legacy.
The great versatility of the content characterizing this Master's program constitutes an excellent foundation for subsequently pursuing professions related to archival work, library science, editing, museum studies, cultural dissemination, tourism promotion, among many others.
