Description and Objectives
This is an official master's program affiliated with the Department of Prehistory and Archaeology at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the UAM. It has a duration of one year, offering 50 places for new admissions each academic year, with a total of 60 credits. The minimum number of credits per student per academic term is 24, and its primary language of instruction is Spanish.
This master's program aims to train archaeologists capable of conducting research in the scientific field and practicing their profession with a proper ethical awareness, a thorough command of the methods, and techniques inherent to the archaeological discipline. This is based on a solid foundation as historians, specifically experts in the History of Culture and the heritage dimension.
Additionally, it prepares students to pursue doctoral studies, cultivating specialists at the highest level in all thematic and chronological areas covering Prehistory and Archaeology in their current development. Graduates are equipped to work in universities, CSIC, museums, and institutions related to the conservation, study, and assessment of Archaeological Heritage.
Student profiles
To access this official Master's program, it is necessary to hold an official Spanish university degree or an accredited foreign degree. It is specifically aimed at graduates in Archaeology, History, Humanities, Art History, Geography, Classical Philology, Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, and Fine Arts.
Professional Training
Graduates have various professional orientation options in different fields, including scientific research and teaching in both public and private universities, as well as research centers such as CSIC. They can also pursue independent practice as archaeologists in commercial and heritage management sectors.
Moreover, they may find employment in museums and institutions dedicated to the study, revaluation, and conservation of Cultural Heritage. Opportunities exist in companies and official organizations involved in the restoration of cultural and archaeological assets.
Finally, graduates can also work in the field of scientific dissemination and heritage, including roles in publishing, mass media, and social media platforms.
