European Doctoral Day
On May 13, 2026, the Autonomous University of Madrid will join in the celebration of European Doctoral Day, an event dedicated to recognizing the value of doctoral education and the essential contribution of doctoral candidates and PhD holders to the advancement of knowledge, innovation, and social development. This day highlights the strategic role of the doctorate as a driver of scientific, economic, and cultural progress, and as a cornerstone for addressing the major challenges of contemporary society.
The commemorative event will begin with an official opening ceremony led by academic authorities, followed by the awarding of diplomas to the winners of the 2025 Doctoral School Short Story Contest. It will continue with the act of investiture of the doctoral hood to the doctoral graduates of the 2024/25 academic year (a distinctive sash placed over the shoulders of the new doctoral graduate as a symbol of belonging to the university community and of commitment to research and knowledge). This will be followed by the presentation of the diplomas for the 2023/24 Extraordinary Doctoral Award. The ceremony will conclude with a speech given by one of the doctors honored with the Extraordinary Doctoral Award, on behalf of the recent graduates in the doctoral community.
