Trabajo Fin de Máster

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and MSC-extracellular vesicles (EVs) as diagnostic tools, infection biomarkers, and antiviral activity

Línea de investigación

Development of bionanoparticles for prevention and control of livestock viral diseases: engineered virus-like particles and extracellular vesicles.

Descripción

The project will be developed using the foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) model, relevant in both livestock and wildlife. Previous work by our group has enabled the development of vaccination strategies based on VLPs containing an epitope of FMDV, which induce a strong humoral response. Additionally, we are experts in the isolation and characterization of EVs as nanomarkers.

The main objective of the project lies in the use of bio-nanoparticles (virions, modified viral pseudoparticles, and extracellular vesicles) for the diagnosis, prevention, and control of viral diseases in livestock. The results obtained will be crucial for disease diagnosis, allowing deeper insights into viral pathogenesis, analysis of antiviral mechanisms, and the design, development, and optimization of vaccines, with significant potential for technology transfer.
