Aims of the Master's Course

To provide students with a comprehensive and multidisciplinary education of the most useful quantitative research methods for the study of epidemiology and public health. In particular:

  1. Training of new top researchers in the field of Epidemiology, Preventive Medicine and Public Health, who will add to Spain’s contribution of knowledge in this field. These new researchers will also guarantee the turnover of teachers in the long term.
  2. Continued training of teachers/researchers who teach on the programme, to incorporate new methodologies and research and teaching techniques.
  3. Training of human resources of the National Health System to identify and evaluate risks and problems in public health and to develop and evaluate efficient and effectives policies and interventions in this field.

In particular, the students that complete this programme will have achieved the following objectives relating to knowledge, skills and attitudes:

  1. They will possess a systematic and theoretically well-founded knowledge of the main quantitative methods in epidemiological research.
  2. They will be able to complete research projects in epidemiology that can be funded by national and international agencies.
  3. They will be able to draw up a sophisticated epidemiological research design, prepare instruments for collecting data, coordinate and supervise the collection of this data and manage and analyse a data base competently.
  4. They will be able to write a scientific manuscript that is publishable in an international review on epidemiology, public health and similar fields of science.
  5. They will develop skills and positive attitudes towards working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
