Admission

PhD Programme in Pharmacology and Physiology

Application for admission in the PhD program in Pharmacology and Physiology is performed exclusively through the online  Sigma platform.

The Academic Commission of the PhD Program is responsible of the admission of students who meet the access requirements.

The criteria for evaluating the merits of the candidates who apply admission in the PhD Program in Pharmacology and Physiology will be the following:

  • The academic transcripts of the Bachelor/Master studies (75%).
  • The candidate's CV (15%). Aspects such as research experience in Spanish or foreign centers, participation in scientific communications at national and international meetings (oral or poster presentation) and authorship in scientific publications such as books or specialized journals will be especially valued. In the case of publications in journals, the position of the candidate among the authors will be considered (especially if it is the first or second author), as well as the quality indicators of the journal (for example, the impact factor and the relative position within its category according to databases such as the Journal Citation Reports).
  • The level of knowledge of English (10%). A level of knowledge of English will be required that allows, at least, a correct understanding of scientific articles in this language. An English level equivalent to at least B2, according to the European Framework of Reference, will be positively evaluated.

If the Academic Committee deems it necessary, it may conduct personal interviews with the candidates and / or request letters of reference, especially in those cases in which it is necessary to clarify aspects regarding the candidate's CV or when the number of candidates susceptible for admission in the Program is greater than the number of places offered for new entry.

In addition, in those cases in which the Academic Committee considers that the candidate's previous training is not sufficient or adequate for access to the PhD Program, they will ask the candidate to perform specific training complements. These specific training supplements will be considered at a doctoral training level and will have public prices. The time dedicated to this specific training will not be included in the 3-year full-time limit that stands from the admission of the PhD student to the program until the presentation of the PhD thesis, as established in article 3.2 of RD99 / 2011.

Once the student is admitted in the PhD program, the Academic Committee of the Program will assign a Tutor to the student, from among the researchers associated with the program.

More information on the assignment of the Tutor and PhD Thesis Director in the RD 99/2011 Doctoral Programs of the Autonomous University of Madrid can be found on the website of the Doctoral School/UAM.

For the assignment of Tutor and Director (s) of the PhD thesis, the Academic Committee will take particular account of the research professors who appear as guarantors of the candidate in the document "Letter of Motivation", which can be downloaded at this link.

In the event that the Director of a thesis carried out in the Doctoral Program is a researcher associated with the Program, the figures of Director and Thesis Tutor will preferably coincide. Otherwise, in addition to the thesis director, the doctoral student must have a tutor associated with the Doctoral Program who will be assigned by the Academic Committee of the Program.
