Ana González-Rivas Fernández is currently a senior lecturer in English Studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She holds a PhD in Philology and has first degrees in both Classics and English from the Complutense University of Madrid. For her degree in English, she received that university's Extraordinary Graduation Prize. She completed her PhD with a dissertation analyzing the literary and cultural relationships between Greek-Latin literature and Gothic literature from the mid-18th century to the mid-19th century (Los clásicos grecolatinos y la novela gótica angloamericana: encuentros complejos, 2010; published online at http://eprints.ucm.es/12199/). With this study, she obtained the highest qualification (Sobresaliente cum laude), the title of Doctor with European Mention, and the Doctorate Extraordinary Prize.

As a postgraduate student, she was awarded an FPU scholarship to conduct her dissertation at the Complutense University of Madrid. She worked as a lecturer in Classical Literature at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas during the 2011-2012 academic year and has been a faculty member in the English department of the Universidad Autónoma since 2012. Internationally, she has been a visiting scholar at the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (Argentina, 2013), Baylor University (Texas, 2014), Open University (London, 2015), University of Essex (Colchester, 2022 and 2023), and the University of Oxford (2024). Alongside her academic work, she has participated in the organization of various cultural events, such as Madrid Gothic Week (Semana Gótica de Madrid, SGM) and activities related to Madrid Science Week.

Her main research interests lie in Anglo-American Gothic and Fantastic Literature, Comparative Literature, Myth Criticism, Reception Studies, Intermediality, and Popular Culture. Regarding Intermediality, she is particularly interested in the interactions between literature and film or comic books. Her academic publications explore the works of authors such as Mary Shelley, George Eliot, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Charles Robert Maturin, Edgar Allan Poe, M. R. James, Edward Bulwer-Lytton, and the Pre-Raphaelites, among others. She has also analyzed motifs such as the ghost, the vampire, and the monster, as well as figures such as Peter Pan, Lamia, and Prometheus. She has a particular interest in the study of classical myths and their reception in modern culture, especially in horror fiction, which has been the focus of some of her more recent publications.

Currently, she is the vice president of EAPSA (Edgar Allan Poe Spanish Association), the secretary of Asteria (International Association of Myth Criticism), and a member of the Governing Board of SELGyC (Spanish Association of Comparative Literature). She has organized several seminars and conferences on English and Comparative Literature and has led multiple teaching projects on the study of English literature. She organizes the annual seminar The Literature of Terror: Exploring Mythical Figures in Gothic Fiction and is the co-founder and co-organizer of the permanent seminar Mythical Projections, which focuses on classical mythology and its reception in Anglo-Saxon culture.
