Estudios Interdisciplinares de Género

Programa Doctorado en Estudios Interdisciplinares de Género

Over the past few decades, gender studies have contributed to reveal and know areas of reality that had not been explored before, and also to reduce bias and errors within concepts and theories. Therefore, gender is clearly a field of innovation in Science and Technology. In some cases, especially regarding social sciences and humanities, it has contributed to important reworkings of disciplinary fundaments within some fields of knowledge. In other areas, there is still a lot to do, and in order to go forward it is necessary to encourage a productive exchange between gender studies and the rest of the fields of knowledge. In this regard, one of the main strengths of this program lies in its interdisciplinary nature. This is not a whimsical option but it answers to the fact that this PhD’s main goal is the approach of gender mainstreaming, which demands and requires interdisciplinary research and professional training in gender studies. It is precisely this interdisciplinary scope what gives this program its inter-university nature. Although interdisciplinarity has always distinguished gender studies and gender research, the reality is that the niches of expert knowledge on this matter can be found distributed across many Spanish universities and thus, it is difficult to satisfy specialized demands in a single centre or university. The group of universities, institutes and seminars responsible for this PhD program (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, Universidad de Alicante, Universidad de Huelva, Universidad de Illes Baleares, Universidad Jaume I de Castellón, Universidad Juan Carlos I de Madrid and Universidad de La Laguna), all of them possessing supported teaching and researching experience, will guarantee that all the needs are met despite the extreme scientific specificity and specialization that characterise a PhD program.
