Programa de Doctorado en Psicología

This program consists of three fundamental areas of research that involve different Departments of the Faculty of Psychology of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Department of Social Psychology and Methodology, Department of Basic Psychology, and Department of Psychology and Education), which, at the same time, are subdivided in more specific research lines, where the student can start working on research projects that can lead into their PhD:

The three main research areas that conforms this Program are:

-   Development and Education: Formal and Informal Contexts

-   Basic Psychological Processes in Learning and Education

-   Social Psychology: Development of basic knowledge and application contexts

 

A sign of identity of this doctoral program, in all its areas and lines of research is the interest for integrating both conceptually and functionally developments of basic and applied psychology, as well as putting at the disposal of the researchers all the methodological tools to ensure the best education for future researchers in all the areas of academic Psychology, except for Clinic Psychology, that is covered by a specific Ph Program offered also in the Faculty od Psychology.

 

 

Research lines:


 

  • Development and Education: Formal and Informal Contexts
    • Early development: communicative systems (semiotics and language); self-regulation and emotion.
    • Children and adolescents’ needs and rights. Minors at risk.
    • Interpersonal relationships and school climate: aggression, cooperation and inclusion. Students’ agency.
    • The construction of identity in different developmental contexts: gender, music and society.
    • Equity, educational policies for inclusion and psycho-educational assessment in the school and family contexts.
    • Methods for research in developmental and educational psychology:quantitative, qualitative and ethnography.
    • Basic Psychological Processes in Learning and Education
    • Learning and instructional processes in different domains of knowledge (mathematics, social sciences, economy, history, language, music, science, sports, art, etc.)
    • Basic psychological processes that influence learning and education (including perception, attention, memory, language, thinking, metacognition, creativity)
    • Studies on motivation, evaluation and self-regulation
    • Conceptions, strategies and practices of learning, teaching and assessment
    • Cultural perspectives in the study of learning and education

 

  • Social Psychology: Development of basic knowledge and application contexts
    • Attitudes: Persuasion and influence; attitudes and risk behavior;  the meta-cognitive model of attitudes.
    • Affect and social behavior: categorization, expression and regulation of emotional episodes.
    • Psychosocial factors influencing civic behavior:  moral and prosocial behavior; competition, conflict and cooperation; norms and social motives.
    • Group and organizational behavior
    • Environment and social behavior: environmental perception; pro-environmental attitudes and  behavior; the experience of nature.
    • Psychosocial and community approaches to research and intervention.Violence: research and intervention.
