Call for contest "Thesis in 3 Minutes" - 2025
The Doctoral Schools of the University of Alcalá (UAH), the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC), with the sponsorship of the Ignacio Larramendi Foundation, which co-funds the awards, jointly announce the Ninth “Thesis in 3 minutes” Contest with the aim of challenging their doctoral students to present their research work during a time-limited intervention, through a simple and intelligible language that is able to reach the general public. Its objective is to bring the work of trainee researchers closer to society in order to instill in them an interest in popularizing and spreading science (the call can be found in the download area).
1º The contest is open to PhD students who are at least in their second year of training in a Doctoral Program, in one of the five organizing universities, and who have passed at least one annual evaluation.
2º The competition consists of two phases:
UAM Preliminary Phase (May 23, 2025; 10:00h. Salón de Actos, Filosofía y Letras Faculty). One candidate for each of the five branches of knowledge (Arts and Humanities, Sciences, Health Sciences, Social and Legal Sciences, and Engineering and Architecture) will be selected from among all UAM participants.
Final phase UAM. June 13, 2025; 10:30h. Sala Polivalente, en la Plaza Mayor de la UAM (IT IS NOTED THAT THE LOCATION HAS BEEN CHANGED). Inter-university phase in which the candidates selected by each University in that phase will participate. Each of the winners in each branch of knowledge will receive a prize of 600 €. The remaining finalists, winners of the previous phase in each university, will receive a prize of 100 €. This year the final phase will take place at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM).
The research work must be presented in prose and in Spanish.
