Survey on the Employability of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid Doctoral Degree Holders

The Employability Observatory of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), attached to the Vice-Rectorate for Students and Employability, has been carrying out, for the last decade, the labor market insertion study of those PhD degree holders who have finished Doctoral Studies at this University.

This study provides UAM with a deeper knowledge of the job placement processes of PhD degree holders, obtaining additional information about the evaluation and satisfaction of their doctoral studies at UAM, which is a key element of improvement of doctoral education at UAM.

Regarding the methodology, approximately 50% of the PhD degree holders that have completed Doctorate programs at the University is contacted every year, 12/18 months after finishing their PhD studies. Fieldwork is carried out for two months (November and December), first by online massive survey, and at a later point by telephone contact to those who have not answered in order to complete the sample observing gender and study program proportionality. In this way significant results are obtained for the general study (sample error +/- 3.9% last PhD degree holders).

The whole process is confidential, safeguarding the anonymity of those surveyed, and the results are presented aggregated by study programs, fields of knowledge, and the university as a whole. These reports can be consulted on the UAM Employability Observatory website, which allows comparing in a longitudinal way the study variables through the different academic years analyzed.
