MARÍA GIL IZQUIERDO is Tenured Full-time Lecturer in the Unit of Statistics, Applied Economics Department, in the University Autonoma of Madrid. At present, she lectures the course of Theoretical Statistics in the bilingual Degree of Bussiness and Finance, taught in English. She holds a PhD in Economics from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (June 2007), with the thesis "Incidence of Public Spending on Higher Education in Spain: a multidimensional approach," directed by Dr. Laura de Pablos. He was awarded with the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis, (Faculty of Economics and Business, University Complutense of Madrid) and with the Doctoral Thesis Award (Institute for Fiscal Studies, Public Economics). She graduated in Economics (Universidad Carlos III of Madrid) and in Business Studies (University of Extremadura). She has the Degree of the Ninth Master in Public Finance and Economic Analysis (Institute for Fiscal Studies), where she was an intern in the Division of Budget and Public Expenditure. She has published many articles in different peer-reviewed journals or working papers, as well as books or collaborations in book chapters. She has participated in research projects funded by different institutions. She takes part in two national R&D projects and holds two grants on the Ramón Areces Foundation. She also lectures in other courses, as in the "Course of assessing the impact of public policies in Spain and Latin America. Control, efficiency and equity" (Complutense Summer School, Spain and Latin America), or in the Spanish Summer School “Spanish Law, Politics and Economics” (University Autónoma of Madrid), taught in English. From December 2007 to February 2012 she served as academic secretary of the Department of Applied Economics. She is a member of the faculty board since 2015. She has directed and participated in several teaching innovation projects, and she holds the Diploma in Higher Education Teaching Training (Autonomous University of Madrid). She has been classified as Excellent Professor in the DOCENTIA Program (University Autonoma of Madrid) in the 2010-11 and 2014-15 Calls.

Convinced of the need of students playing the leading role of their own learning and that trying to be a better teacher is an art, in this section I describe some of the resources I use in my teaching and their outcomes.
