ELENA GARCÍA-GUITIÁN is Full Professor of Political Science and Administration in the Department of Political Science and RRII, at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Between 2009 and 2011 she was General Director of Relations with Las Cortes (the Spanish parliament) in the Vice Presidency of the Government of Spain and in the Ministry of the Presidency. She was a visiting researcher at Harvard University (academic year 1998-99) and has taught at various European universities such as the IEP of Bordeaux, Paris-Dauphine, Warsaw University or Glasgow University. Her research has focused on liberalism, analysis of political concepts and theories of democracy, particularly on political representation and citizen participation, as well as narratives on the democratic deficit of the EU.
