Diego J. Cárdenas received his M.O. (Universidad de Granada, 1990) in Chemistry and his Ph.D. (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 1994) in Organic Chemistry under supervision of Prof. A. Echavarren. As a postdoctoral fellow he joined Jean­Pierre Sauvagé's group at Université Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg, 1995-1996) working in supramolecular chemistry. He returned to the Organic Chemistry Department (UAM) as an Assistant Professor. In 2002 he got a position as an Associate Professor and in 2010 he became Full Professor. Since 2014 he is the Head of the Organic Chemistry Department (UAM). In 2001 he got the New Researcher Award of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry. Since 2004 he leads the research group "Organometallic Chemistry Directed Towards Organic Synthesis" at UAM focused on transition metal organometallic chemistry, both in the development of synthetically interesting catalytic methodologies and mechanistic studies; proto-coupled electron transfer reactions and electroactive molecules. He has conducted two short research stays at Universities of Cambridge (2007) and Michigan (2012). He is author of over one hundred fifteen scientific papers.
