The European Central Bank has launched: Legal Trainee in the Library

General Information   Type of contract  Traineeship   Who can apply?  EU nationals eligible for our traineeship programme   Grant  The trainee grant is €1,070 per month plus an accommodation allowance (see further information section)   Working time  Full time   Place of work  Frankfurt am Main, Germany   Closing date  10.02.2023     Your team   You will be part of the Information Governance Division in the Directorate General Secretariat. Our Directorate has about 60 staff providing services and tools to ensure ECB staff can access and draw fully on internal and external knowledge and information. Together with colleagues from across the Division, the Library team is currently designing a knowledge management programme, which will transform the library into a collaboration and knowledge hub. The hub will offer services that help to locate, share and re-use information, and will use new technologies to enhance the search experience.    In your role as a Legal Trainee, you will be part of a dynamic and service-oriented Library team of 11 members of staff responsible for supporting the ECB’s business areas in their research activities and for managing the library’s print and online collections. You will also be involved in library transformation activities, such as the implementation of the new library space concept, the development of training sessions on search skills, the design of new search solutions and other occasional activities.    You will work closely with the law librarian and with lawyers across the ECB, especially in the legal knowledge management team.    The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve.   • provide reference services and legal research support for the ECB’s lawyers using the library’s print resources and online legal databases;
  • contribute to the design of business solutions for published information that help lawyers organise their information and turn it into intelligence;
  • develop topic-based alerts and newsletters with filtered content to meet business and research needs of lawyers;
  • help promote available library resources and services.

You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.      Qualifications, experience and skills   Essential: 

  • a bachelor’s degree or higher in law and/or library sciences;
  • excellent research and analytical skills;
  • a good knowledge of EU law;
  • an awareness of and interest in the role and functioning of the ECB;
  • familiarity with legal databases for research purposes, including Lexis, Westlaw and EUR-Lex;
  • a good knowledge of the MS Office package;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

  Desired: 

  • experience in providing library services or legal knowledge management services.
