Título: How to lose the Y chromosome and still survive: a story of mole voles Ellobius
Día: 18 de junio (martes) a las 12:30 horas en la Sala de Grados del Edificio de Biología de la UAM (C/Darwin Nº 2).
Most mammalian species have heteromorphic sex chromosomes and specific sex-determining genetic factors, except a few enigmatic groups such as the mole voles Ellobius. So far, nobody knows which mechanisms determine the development of males in these rodents lacking Y chromosome (X0♂/X0♀ and XX♂/XX♀) and Sry gene. Five mole vole species demonstrate the ability to establish diverse meiotic mechanisms for overcoming evolutionary deadlocks.
