IntroductionFood Science Degree aim to train specialists in all aspects related with food and its effects on social welfare and economy, from the production and conservation to the food/health pair, passing through quality and security.
The recent food scarces have awoken a great concern among population in terms of food safety. Consequently, improving productive processes control, together with development and application of sensitive and reliable methods for detecting food toxics and pollutants are priorities in the current food area. Furthermore, the food/health pair has achieved a general interest on the industry and society. The idea of improving health status through food, even preventing diseases, is undoubtedly very attractive.
The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid has specific teaching laboratories with latest generation equipment, as well as a Pilot Plant with adequate facilities for students’ practices at a semi-industrial level. There are two Food research centres of note at the campus, as CIAL (Instituto de Investigación en Ciencias de la Alimentación) and IMDEA Alimentación (Instituto Madrileño de Estudios Avanzados), where the majority of professors teaching at the studies undertake their research. They also offer students the possibility to carry out their Trabajo Fin de Grado (End-of-Degree Project) in a Food R&D privileged environment. Likewise, University relations with different companies from the food area will allow all the students to undertake their internships, aiming to prepare them for professional insertion.
